Day One:  Birds - First in Flight
On the first day of "Science of Flight," campers visit Greenwood Plantation, located right here in Thomasville, GA.  While at Greenwood, the campers learn about various birds, mammals, and reptiles under the guidance of Ms. Sandy Beck, the education director at St. Francis Wildlife Association.  Campers observe and interact with live raptors and see how their adaptions make flight possible.

Later that afternoon, campers return to the Thomas University campus, where they compare and contrast characteristics of the animals that were discussed during the morning's presentation.  Afterwards, they dissect owl pellets, all the while discussing and writing down their observations in their field journals.
Day Two:  Archery - Early Objects in Flight
During day two, archery experts, like Adam Burke, archery coach at Whigham School, provide opportunities for students to learn and practice developing their archery skills.  When campers are not practicing archery, they are learning how to research and build hot air balloons.  After the research is complete, campers will share their findings with one another.  They will then go outside to perform a research project on hot air rising in a solar bag.  The day ends with campers competing in an archery tournament, where the camper with the highest score wins a prize.
Day Three:  Airplanes - How is Human Flight Possible?

Campers will take a trip to an airport, tour a plane and cockpit, and discuss flight with a pilot.  Activities will include:  tour of the Thomasville Airport, construction of a balsa wood airplane to fly in competition, and working with and flying drones.  Mr. Joe Maroney, of FutraTech, and his assistant will demonstrate how to fly drones and what drones can be used for.  After the demonstration is over, the students will have opportunities to fly the drones.
Day Four:  Outer Space - The Ultimate in Human Flight

Campers will visit the Challenger Learning Center in Tallahassee.  While there, they will view a Planetarium show called "Skies Over Tallahassee," engage in rocket construction, participate in a scavenger hunt, and view an I-Max presentation called "Dream Big."
Day Five:  Tree - to - Tree - A Bird's Eye View

Campers will visit and tour the Tallahassee Museum.  While there, they will experience a view from the "top".  Campers will complete a tree top rope course, where they will experience a different perspective, as they view the ground below.
